Portland to New York
I didn’t end up getting any sleep on the train to Portland. I sat next to a World War II veteran and we chatted all the way down. Very nice guy, and a really interesting conversation. For my trip I brought an army book from the war that has info about every country and uniforms, insignia, etc. He told me what the stories were behind all of the various division insignia, and some of them were pretty funny.
I arrived at Union Station in Portland and walked a few blocks to Jon’s friend Andy’s place. Had a couple beers and watched Futurama, then promptly fell asleep.
Alas, it was only for a few hours; I woke up at 3:30am and took a shower, then rn downstairs. The nice part was that he lived across the street from a MAX station that took me straight to the airport.
I walked up to the Delta check-in centre and tried using one of the self-service kiosks, but it couldn’t find my reservation, so I had to wait in line at the full service desks.
When I walked up, the lady behind the counter found my reservation with mo problems. And then—in a nice bit of serendipity—she changed my flight to a nonstop trip that will get me to New York by 2:30, which will give me plenty of time to check in for my 7:45pm flight, which I’m now going to board.
