What is this place?

a warm gun is the personal web site of multimedia artist and resident geek Ian Adams, based out of Seattle, WA. This page shows all link blog entries from July, 2008.

Where is everything?

The most recently posted stuff can be found on the front page. Older posts and articles are listed, by category and date, in the archives. There is also the Link Blog, which is my (almost) daily list of interesting links and brief commentary on AWG-related topics.

Additional areas on this site can be accessed by using the navigation links on the far left. (Or far bottom if you’re visiting this site using an alternative browser like Opera Mini.)

Mini Reactors Show Promise for Clean Nuclear Power’s Future

The new unit can be manufactured cheaply, with standard turbines from General Electric, for example, rather than custom-made parts. Because the steel reactor vessel is only 9 ft. in diameter, it can be made entirely in the U.S., rather than relying on Japan Steel Works, the only manufacturer who can cast today’s one-piece, 25-ft.-plus reactor vessels.

Banksy, the Famously Anonymous Street Artist: Part One in an Eight-Part Banksy Series

Who is Banksy? We may not know his real name, but his art is unmistakably the work of a passionate individual. So what do we know about Banksy? His paintings, stencils, and other art pieces frequently address serious social issues. He takes on capitalism, war, poverty, and governments with grace. His work often displays a keen sense of humor, making it equally possible that you will laugh or cast your eyes down thoughtfully upon seeing a Banksy piece.

The ISS is all decked out; give it somewhere to go

The ISS, you see, is already an interplanetary spacecraft — at least potentially. It’s missing a drive system and a steerage module, but those are technicalities. Although it’s ungainly in appearance, it’s designed to be boosted periodically to a higher altitude by a shuttle, a Russian Soyuz or one of the upcoming new Constellation program Orion spacecraft. It could fairly easily be retrofitted for operations beyond low-Earth orbit. In principle, we could fly it almost anywhere within the inner solar system — to any place where it could still receive enough solar power to keep all its systems running.

Battle for film, TV production gets ‘Ugly’

Money quote:

Also, although there has been an increase in the production of reality shows, those shows don’t create the same amount of revenue as scripted dramas or sitcoms.

Keep that in mind the next time your favourite drama gets cancelled in lieu of some crappy reality show like Extreme Makeover.

PDF gains ISO standard certification

Woohoo! PDF everywhere!

Joy Division singer’s gravestone stolen

Curtis’s widow, Debbie, was said to be in “a state of shock” after being informed that the stone was missing.

Utterly contemptible. I hope the thieves get caught soon.

Pop star Kylie Minogue honoured with OBE

Boy, they just give those out to anyone these days, don’t they?
